St Mary’s Primary School, Casino, came alive with community spirit as students, grandparents, and the trucking world came together for a fun-filled celebration of the Casino Truck Show and Grandparents Day. (5 August 2025)
St Mary’s Primary School, Casino, buzzed with excitement as it jointly celebrated the Casino Truck Show and Grandparents Day. The event was a joyful mix of community spirit, heartfelt connections, and lively fun.
Students were thrilled to meet special guests from the trucking world, including Yogi and CJ from Outback Truckers. Thanks to local families and the Steering the Future team, big rigs were on display, giving students a close-up look at these impressive vehicles and their vital role in our communities.
Steering the Future is an inspiring initiative that educates young people about careers in road transport and emphasises truck safety. Their visit featured an interactive truck equipped with driving simulators, 360-degree videos, and VR goggles, offering students a chance to experience life behind the wheel.
Laughter filled the day with fun challenges like ‘How many Kinders to pull Yogi out of a rut?’ and the grandad challenge. A highlight was the ‘Which Grandma Can Warm a Trucker’s Heart?’ cooking contest, where grandmothers’ homemade dishes competed for Yogi and CJ’s approval, with a Cherry Ripe Slice stealing the show.
‘I think we need a Grandma’s of SMP recipe book,’ said one parent.
Grandparents visited classrooms to learn more about the students' learning journey and connect with their grandchildren. The day ended with a shared lunch, smiles, and a strong sense of community pride.
Events like this remind us how powerful the connection is between generations, industries, and community.
