In Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools, professional growth and teaching excellence are central to school culture. In 2024, Jessica Wilson, Leader of Pedagogy at St Ambrose Catholic Primary School, Pottsville, achieved national certification as a Highly Accomplished Teacher, and this year, gained Lead Teacher accreditation. This dual certification recognises her outstanding leadership, mentorship, and impact on teaching and learning.

HALT certification recognises expert teachers who lead from within and beyond the classroom to improve teaching and student outcomes.

‘Becoming both a Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher has been a defining milestone in my career,’ said Jessica. ‘It reaffirmed that excellence in teaching is a continuous pursuit, strengthened by collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to learning.’

Jessica’s achievement reflects a growing number of accredited and aspiring HALTs in the Diocese, who see the Standards as the definition of expert teaching and educational leadership.

‘At St Ambrose, HALTs are central to our culture of excellence,’ said Principal Brian Laybutt. ‘They mentor colleagues, lead initiatives, and share expertise to lift teaching and learning for all.’

‘Jessica’s dual certification reflects a deep commitment to evidence-based practice, collaboration, and leadership. She exemplifies how the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers can drive career-long professional growth,’ said Leisa Fisher, Lead, Teacher Accreditation

The Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools proudly congratulates Jessica on this career milestone, a powerful example of reflective, collaborative leadership in action.
