A vibrant community celebration of creativity took place at St Brigid’s Primary School, Kyogle, as part of the innovative ‘Wellbeing Through Music’ program led by the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools. In Term 4, 2024, Year 4 students were at the heart of this exciting initiative, working alongside talented songwriters and producers CJ Shaw and Matthew Storen (Mattriks) to craft an original song focused on pedestrian safety.

On Thursday, 14 November 2024, the school grounds buzzed with excitement as students from all grades experienced the magic of a professional music recording session. The Year 4 students took centre stage, starring in the music video. The day concluded with a lively concert, where the school community gathered to celebrate the students’ achievements and dedication to the project.

On Friday, 21 March 2025, the school hosted an official launch of the highly anticipated music video during the school assembly. The room was filled with excitement as students, staff, and families watched the video come to life on screen, reliving the treasured moments of their Term 4 project. The video not only showcased the students’ artistic talents but also highlighted the important road safety message they were eager to share.

‘This was an incredible project that taught the students real-life practical skills in a fun and unforgettable way,’ said parent Ali.

This initiative not only deepened students’ understanding of the creative process but also fostered self-expression, collaboration, and a strong sense of community responsibility. The now Year 5 students, reflecting on their experience, shared their thoughts on the project.

‘It was amazing to work together on something we’d never done before and connect in a new way,’ said Harry.

‘I loved seeing everyone enjoy themselves, get along, and have the courage to perform,’ said Elaine.

‘It was so fun to write the song not just for our school, but knowing it would be shared with others,’ said Byron.

The students and staff of St Brigid’s Kyogle warmly invite all primary schools in the Diocese of Lismore and beyond to use their song and video as a valuable resource for teaching essential pedestrian safety skills.
