St Joseph’s College, Banora Point, warmly welcomed Dolly, their new school support dog, whose calming presence is already making a positive impact on student wellbeing, with plans to expand her role in pastoral care and wellbeing programs.

Last Year, St Joseph’s College, Banora Point, was delighted to introduce the newest member of our school community: Dolly, the support dog! After thorough preparation and meeting all necessary requirements, Dolly has quickly become a cherished presence on campus, bringing joy, comfort, and countless benefits to students and staff.

The arrival of Dolly marks a significant step in the school’s mission to nurture the spiritual, emotional, and academic wellbeing of every student. Specially trained for school environments, Dolly has been carefully assessed to ensure she meets the highest standards of safety, temperament, and training.

Since joining the school community, Dolly’s presence has been met with overwhelming excitement and gratitude. Principal Ryan Campbell shared his delight, ‘We’ve already seen how Dolly can positively influence the school environment. She brings a sense of calm and joy that touches everyone she encounters. She’s become a symbol of the community and care we strive to foster here at St Joseph’s.’

Students were equally thrilled to welcome Dolly, ‘I’ve spent time with Dolly, and she’s helped me calm down in just a few minutes. I believe she’s doing wonders for our school’s overall happiness and emotional wellbeing,’ said one student.

But the story doesn’t end there. The school has big plans to expand Dolly’s role through wellbeing sessions, reading programs, and pastoral care support, making her a key part of the St Joseph’s community.

This meaningful addition to the school reminds us that sometimes the simplest presence—a wagging tail and a gentle nudge—can make the biggest difference.
