The Diocese of Lismore celebrated the creativity, problem-solving, and compassion of students at the Makers Empire Naturally Brave Student Showcase, where innovative 3D designs addressed real-world challenges faced by families during natural disasters.

The Diocese of Lismore united in celebration of STEM, Wellbeing, and 3D Technology at the Makers Empire Naturally Brave Student Showcase in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. The event highlighted the remarkable creativity, problem-solving skills, and empathy of students tackling real-world challenges faced by families during natural disasters.

Over a six-month program, students and teachers explored design thinking and wellbeing concepts—including gratitude, empathy, self-awareness, ownership, and kindness—while utilising cutting-edge 3D design and printing technology. Each participating school received a 3D printer and software, empowering students to transform innovative ideas into practical solutions.

The program, a collaboration between Makers Empire, Bushfire Kids Connect Ltd, and Growing With Gratitude, culminated in a showcase hosted by St Finbarr’s Primary School, Byron Bay. Eight schools participated: St Joseph’s Primary School, Maclean; St Finbarr’s Primary School; Rappville Public School; The Risk Public School; Byron Bay Public School; Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School; Pacific Valley Christian School; and Kingstown Public School.

‘It was great to be part of a national program. We learned much about teamwork throughout the year using Makers Empire,’ said Grace Bell, a student from St Joseph’s Primary, Maclean.

Congratulations to St Joseph’s Primary School, Maclean, for winning the Peer Award (People’s Choice) and to St Finbarr’s Primary School, Byron Bay, for earning the Industry Award for their outstanding contributions.

‘The Student Showcase was an outstanding success, with students impressively demonstrating their creativity, problem-solving skills, and compassion. It was truly rewarding to see their innovative ideas come to life using 3D design and technology to support families impacted by natural disasters,’ said St Finbarr’s teachers, Joe Keane and Mary McEvilly Butler.

This program exemplifies the transformative power of education, innovation, and community to make a positive difference in the world.
