Xavier Catholic College's Open Boys' Rugby League Team triumphed as 2024 State Country Champions.

The atmosphere was electric at Bathurst as Xavier Catholic College’s Open Boys' Rugby League Team clinched the title of State Country Champions with a commanding 22-10 victory over Kiama High School in the final. This incredible achievement marks the culmination of years of hard work, grit, and dedication from both players and coaching staff.

The championship match brought together the two finest country-based rugby league teams from across New South Wales, including the strongholds of Newcastle and Wollongong. The stakes were high as both schools battled fiercely to claim the prestigious title, but it was Xavier College that emerged victorious, solidifying its place as the top country rugby league team in the state.

Unlike competitions that feature metropolitan schools from the State, Catholic, and Independent systems, this tournament is a showcase for the best of country rugby talent. Xavier College’s triumph is a testament to the strength and determination of regional athletes.

Congratulations are due to every student involved in this monumental win, as well as to coach Anthony Colman, whose leadership and mentorship were instrumental in the team’s success. Anthony has been an unwavering presence for the team over the past two years, guiding the boys through countless training sessions and fostering their development on and off the field.

‘We are truly blessed to have Anthony on our staff. His commitment to these young men and their journey is extraordinary, and this championship is a reflection of the passion and effort he has poured into the team,’ said Leader of Sport Patrick Kennedy.

This victory is not just a testament to the players’ skill and perseverance but also to the sense of community and mentorship that has shaped them into champions. Xavier College’s Open Boys’ Rugby League Team now stands proudly as the State Country Champions—an achievement that will be remembered for years to come.
