Congratulations to Mount St Patrick College, Murwillumbah, and alumna Chloe Saddler for successfully designing the Eastern Sydney Roosters' 2024 Indigenous Round jersey.
Chloe Saddler, a proud descendant of the Wiradjuri Tribe, attended Mount St Patrick College from 2013 to 2017. Her journey was not without its challenges, but her resilience and determination shone through as she completed Year 12, leaving a lasting impact on the school community. Known for her vibrant personality and athletic prowess, Chloe excelled in hockey, league tag, and rugby league both at school and in the community. Her kindhearted nature and contagious smile have made her a beloved figure among friends, family, and community members.
Chloe's advocacy for mental health and her journey of connecting to her Aboriginal culture through painting have been significant aspects of her personal growth.
She credits her family support and cultural expression for helping her overcome struggles, stating, ‘I have been through some very tough times within my short life. But every moment has reminded me of the gift I was given in painting. I am very grateful to have been given a talent that allows me to connect and inspire both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.’
The 2024 Sydney Roosters Indigenous jersey, designed by Chloe, is not just a piece of clothing. It's a heartfelt tribute to her late grandfather, former Roosters player Ron Saddler. The jersey features a goanna totem on the front, symbolising Ron's life journey with its many twists and turns. The blue hues represent the water of Murwillumbah, where Ron and his family reside, close to the coastline and a river. On the back, five circles symbolise Ron's immediate and extended family, as well as the teams he played for, including the Roosters, NSW, Australia, and Murwillumbah.
This jersey honours Ron Saddler's legacy in the rugby league community and highlights the enduring spirit that continues to shine through his family and friends. Chloe, now a successful registered nurse and graphic designer, has also created cultural murals at Mount St Patrick College and other Northern Rivers schools. Her work is highly sought after in both the Northern Rivers and Sydney communities.
