On this year's World Down Syndrome Day, the St Joseph’s Primary School, Laurieton, school community came together to honour and celebrate the invaluable contributions of individuals with Down Syndrome.
The day's highlight was an assembly led by Bella Fede, a remarkable Year 6 student. Bella's presentation, a poignant video, offered a glimpse into her life with Down Syndrome and her experiences at St Joseph's. Her video was not just informative but a celebration of her journey and the strides she has made academically, athletically, and socially. Bella's infectious confidence and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on everyone present, inspiring us all.
St Joseph’s takes immense pride in welcoming two thriving students with Down Syndrome, including Bella, into their school community. Their accomplishments stand as a shining testament to the inclusive ethos nurtured at St Joseph's, where every student is empowered to realise their fullest potential.
‘It has been a privilege to facilitate Bella's learning journey at St Joseph's. She has achieved tremendous growth across all areas and aspects of her schooling over the years, and we will sorely miss her when she leaves us for high school in 2025,’ said Leader of Inclusion Fiona Hayward.
The assembly was a powerful tool to educate our students and the wider community about Down syndrome. It underscored the importance of acceptance and empathy, reminding us that our diversities are what make us extraordinary. Each member of our community brings invaluable contributions. Bella's achievements illuminated the significance of World Down Syndrome Day and underscored the transformative power of embracing diversity and inclusivity within the school community.
