Last week, more than 70 mentors and school contacts from across the Diocese came together for the Graduate Formation Program, immersing themselves in three intensive training days.

The program's primary objective is to guide new teachers from Graduate to Proficient Teacher Standards under the mentorship of experienced educators, creating a robust foundation for sustained professional growth throughout the new teacher's career.

‘This was a reminder that our early career teachers enter into our profession with the same roles, functions and responsibilities as experienced teachers. We need to nurture their wellbeing and allow them to step away from extracurriculars and focus on improving learning and teaching,’ Emma McFadden, Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Skennars Head.

Mentors are the bridge assisting the beginning teacher to turn “knowing” into “doing” as per the Teacher Standards. I have become more aware of the significant support required for my beginning teacher to guide her methodically and gradually through this developmental process, ensuring she is set up for the rest of her career,’ said Mentor Vanessa Hughes, Assistant Principal - Mission of St Joseph's Primary School, South Murwillumbah.

This commitment to the ongoing development of educators reflects a dedication to actively developing and supporting the next generation of teachers within the Diocese of Lismore, empowering them to not only survive but thrive and make a lasting impact on their students.
