29 September - Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels - September 29th
The Church’s teaching on angels tells us that all creation is called into existence in a communion of life and mutual service. Pure spirits created by God, the angels take their name from the Greek angelos, which means 'messenger'. The archangel Michael is the protector of all humanity against the forces of evil, while Gabriel is the archangel that announced to Mary the birth of Jesus. His greeting to Mary, "Hail, full of grace," is one of the most familiar and frequent prayers of Catholics. Raphael is the archangel responsible for healing. On their feast day, we are reminded of the comfort they bring as messengers of God and ask for their protection during our time of recuperation these holidays.
