Our Lady of Fatima Feast Day

Every canonized saint in the Catholic Church has a day honouring them known as their feast day. It may be the day of their death or a day assigned to them by the Church.

Today, the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima celebrates a well-known Marian apparition in Fatima, Portugal. Three shepherd children reported that the Blessed Virgin Mary visited them on May 13 and through the following 5 months in 1917. She asked them to devote themselves to the Holy Trinity and to pray “the rosary every day, to bring peace to the world and to end the war”.

The Catholic News Agency website summarises the events leading to our recognition of this feast day.

An exciting new feature film is also due for release later this year.  This trailer powerfully captures the unfolding drama surrounding the apparitions prior to their official recognition by the Vatican in 1930.

The Rosary will be the feature prayer in The Daily Soul today in honour of Our Lady of Fatima.
