The school holidays beckon. Rest and relaxation to revive the mind and body will be a welcome change to the routine of school. The Soul will return in Term 4 to provide a source of nourishment for the spiritual communion of staff and the reminder we all need, from time to time, to focus on our own mental health and wellbeing. May this school break bring us the blessing of time with family, time with friends and time with God, so that we may return rejuvenated for the final leg of what has been the strangest of years.

Making the Most of the Holidays

We expend great amounts of mental, physical and emotional energy meeting the needs of others through our daily engagement with students, their families and our colleagues.

That’s why it’s so important that we use our holiday time to really switch off from the pressures of working in a school by sitting back, relaxing, recharging our batteries and above all, focusing on our own emotional needs.

Integrity_tips_27.jpg

This Integrity Coaching website outlines some simple ways to make the most of the holidays including this 6 point plan:

  • Make a plan for your work
  • Switch off
  • Get outside and exercise
  • Reflect
  • Sleep
  • Less is more

We've added one more to the list...

  • Spend time doing things you enjoy... maybe baking?

Praying with Music

  • Brandon Lake - Rattle (Feat Tasha Cobbs) - If you enjoy country music, you will enjoy praying with this vibrant worship song.

  • Aaron Reefman, Australian Catholic singer-songwriter, has been busy composing new communion hymns for the benefit of our Spiritual Communion. His latest project is to create contemporary covers of classic Catholic hymns. The Blessing is a beautiful cover of the ancient hymn.

  • Audrey Assad challenges our perspective of popular secular music with her latest EP, Eden. Enjoy reflecting with her cover of Coldplay’s Yellow.

  • Koryn Hawthorne - How Great (feat Matt Maher) - There’s much to celebrate; birthdays, Year 12 graduations, welcoming the season of spring. God continues to bless us at every moment. This new song will elevate gratitude for God’s blessings in your life.

29 September - Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels - September 29th

The Church’s teaching on angels tells us that all creation is called into existence in a communion of life and mutual service. Pure spirits created by God, the angels take their name from the Greek angelos, which means 'messenger'. The archangel Michael is the protector of all humanity against the forces of evil, while Gabriel is the archangel that announced to Mary the birth of Jesus. His greeting to Mary, "Hail, full of grace," is one of the most familiar and frequent prayers of Catholics. Raphael is the archangel responsible for healing. On their feast day, we are reminded of the comfort they bring as messengers of God and ask for their protection during our time of recuperation these holidays.

Check out this informative video from Ascension presents for more information on the church’s teaching on angels.

  • Shalom World - Jesus, through his earthly life, shows us how to reach out to people gently and humbly, accepting them as they are.  His non-judgmental approach drew people to healing and wholeness.  Watch Br. Damien Price speak about how to be God's presence in the ordinary circumstances of life, in video series, "Encounter in the Marketplace".

  • Mary, Undoer of Knots is a beautiful form of Marian devotion. Find a prayer for personal troubles and a prayer used by Pope Francis to Mary Undoer of Knots at this site.
