Mother_s_Day_60.jpg

It’s Friday and the weekend awaits! The celebration of Mother’s Day will surely be a highlight as we remember, honour and spoil the great women who gave us life. With the joy of increasing freedom of visitation, let’s remember to hold up our mothers in prayers of gratitude this Sunday.

Lessons Towards Pentecost

‘But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.’

John 14:26-27

As we contemplate the last chapters of John’s Gospel over the coming weeks, we might reflect on the many changes in our own lives demanded by the COVID-19 crisis. The crisis has revealed people’s inherent goodness expressed by their respect for the safety of others, thoughtful social media practices and the care of their family. Teachers are bringing forth a renewed spirit to the call to accompany their students as they return to school.

Our Advocate, by Jay Bryant Ward

At Pentecost, the apostles and other followers of Jesus were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks when the Spirit descended as a mighty wind and tongues of fire. Fulfilling the promise of Christ, the Spirit emboldened the fearful disciples with the courage and love to ‘go out’. By our baptism, we know that the Spirit stirs within us, especially in times of chaos. So let us go deep within our own being, refilled by the Spirit of God, to bring a courageous and new sense of hope to our young students returning to school.

Praying with Music

Divine Mercy Chaplet

Every Mother Every Father - The Porter’s Gate is a sacred ecumenical arts collective reimagining and recreating worship that is welcoming, reflective and impacts both the community and the church. Enjoy this song honouring and blessing the vocation of parenthood.

The Blessing by Elevation Worship - The pandemic has inspired Elevation Worship, a popular Christian worship band, to compose a modern interpretation of this Irish Blessing. Based on Numbers 6:24-26, singer-songwriter Kari Jobe explains, “... it strikes the heart of listeners in a season of fear and awareness of viruses, loss and disappointments. This is THE BLESSING from God over us."
