This week we explore the importance of the Sacraments in the life of every Catholic teacher. The central importance of the Sacraments are the way in which God’s Grace is made real and active in the world. Among the Sacraments there are two that are particularly important to the Catholic Educator, these are the Sacraments of “Eucharist” and “Confession”. The Church teaches that the Eucharist is the source and the summit of our faith. It is the source from where the entire catholic faith flows, it is the summit the highest expression and ultimate destination to which the Catholic Faith journeys. Confession is an intimate encounter with Jesus, it is the place in which we recognise our brokenness and our need for healing, it is a place where we are healed, loved and forgiven and given strength for the road ahead.Renewal in a Catholic School will always be linked to a renewal in the Sacramental life of the people who work there. As they draw more deeply from the sources of Sacramental Grace they are able to transform their school into a Christ-centred community.

The Post-School Destinations Survey reports students’ main destinations in the year after completing Year 12 or leaving school. This survey seeks to provide critical information on education pathways, attainments and destinations of young people in NSW and inform policy making related to students’ post-school education, training and employment.
Please see the attached Catholic Schools NSW Submission in response to Review of Senior Secondary Pathways into Work, Further Education and Training: Discussion Paper.
The scholarships, funded by corporate supporters and private foundations, are open to teachers in NSW government and non-government schools, TAFE NSW campuses, and early childhood centres. Scholarships are awarded in the year prior to the study tour.
The majority of scholarships are for school-based teachers to explore best practice in their chosen subject area. The program delivers significant outcomes for scholarship recipients, students, teacher colleagues, and school communities.
The NSW Premier's Teacher Scholarships program is an initiative of the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet and administered by the NSW Department of Education.

Employer Liability cover has been secured by Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW), working with broker Marsh Pty Ltd for students in Work Experience and Work Placement programs in 2020. Employer indemnity cover through QBE Insurance (Work Experience/Placement Insurance Cover COC for NSW Catholic Schools) will be in force for students of Catholic schools in NSW and ACT undertaking school approved work experience/placement programs from 4.00pm on 31 January 2020 until 31 January 2021.
QBE Insurance will continue to offer cover at the same level. The deductible amount (excess) has increased from $1000 to $25,000 for each incident for general cover. The deductible amount for errors and omissions remains at $5,000. QBE Insurance has introduced a new deductible for Personal Injury to Students, which has been set at $50,000.
All schools are reminded that the Marsh/QBE employer indemnity work experience/placement policy is complementary to Diocesan and school work experience/placement student personal accident/incident cover. Dioceses and schools must continue to provide complementary personal accident/incident cover for all students participating in work experience/placement. Most Dioceses and schools do this through CCI.
Please see the following memo for further information. Contact Gerard Delany CSNSW or phone 02 9287 1549 if you have questions.
While Covid-19 (or Coronavirus) is not currently a threat to our community, it may be an appropriate time to remind students and staff of good hygiene practices in our schools. Please see below advice from the Australian Department of Health and the attached posters.
How can we help prevent the spread of a virus and bacteria?
Practising good hand hygiene and sneeze/cough hygiene is the best defence against most viruses:
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water, before and after eating and after going to the toilet
- Cover coughs and sneezes, dispose of tissues and use alcohol-based hand sanitiser
- If unwell, avoid contact with others (touching, kissing, hugging and other contact).
Information on employment opportunities within the Diocese of Lismore are available via Positions Vacant.
