Each Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student in Years K-12 should have a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) using the provided PLP template. This plan should be established and implemented in consultation with the student, families, Indigenous Education Worker and class teacher in primary schools and an appropriate teacher in secondary schools. This group should meet formally twice a year and the plan updated appropriately. The Personalised Learning Plans should incorporate four learning goals that adhere to the SMART process of goal setting ie, the goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time based.
Two goals are in the area of curriculum and culture. The other two may be reflective of student need ie, behaviour, attendance, social, community or additional curriculum.
Once formalised and signed by all parties the PLP should be uploaded to the student’s file in Schoolworx under the Learning Provision Tab in each student’s file.
In the situation where a student has a Personalised Plan for Learning there is no requirement for a PLP unless so desired. In this circumstance, the Personalised Plan must have an appropriate cultural component.
Each school must have a Community Engagement Plan in consultation with and endorsed by their local Aboriginal Community. A Community Engagement Plan template for this plan can be found on the Catholic Schools Office intranet. The Community Engagement Plan should maintain currency and be endorsed each year on a suitable occasion such as a NAIDOC Week event and be available on the school’s website.
Please be aware that PLPs need to be updated and finalised by the end of Term 1, to be reviewed again during Term 3.
