St Joseph’s College, Banora Point, sweeps the 2023 Northern NSW FUSE Cup in the School Competitions and Individual Competitions. (27 October 2023)
Congratulations to an exceptional group of students from St Joseph's College, Banora Point, who swept last year's 2023 Northern NSW FUSE Cup.
This unique two-day school competition is a series of Esports games that brings together players from across NSW, QLD, VIC and WA for different age groups, promoting fun, good sportsmanship and healthy gaming habits.
The FUSE Cup provides an opportunity for students to experience competitive gaming in a safe and supported environment, as well as providing opportunities for open dialogue with students about how to be safe and respectful online.
St Joseph’s team descended on Emmanuel College, Carrara, for a fierce and dynamic competition. The team blasted their way through each event due to their impressive team performances and individual skills in Mario Kart and Just Dance.
Year 8 student Lachlan Fyfe showcased his exceptional skills by dominating the Mario Kart circuit and emerging as the NSW High Schools State Champion.
‘It was very fun, an awesome setup, and felt very rewarding,’ said Lachlan.
The Just Dance team blitzed their way to the top, taking the NSW State Champions and 2nd in the FUSE Cup Just Dance Esports National Competition. An outstanding achievement for the college team members Leila, Aksa Itty, Khya and Dakina.
‘The FUSE Cup was one of the best times of my life! From being a spectator to participating in Just Dance, every moment was so fun! I look forward to it next year,’ said Year 7 student Dakina.
‘The FUSE Cup Festival - State and National Finals, were truly an extraordinary experience. The students had trained throughout the year and were thoroughly deserving of the title they earned,’ Mr Sunny Lindsay - IT Support.
Congratulations to the students and staff from St Joseph’s College.
We encourage schools to include information about Project Compassion in their weekly newsletter.

Welcome to the 2024 school year. As an update for new starters or a reminder for current staff, here are some key points about payroll management.
Empower self-service
To lodge a request for leave, find your pay advice, or change your address or emergency contact, please sign in to Empower. NB. Schools may have their additional systems to apply for leave.
The pay cycle
For payroll purposes, the annual pay year begins at the start of Term 1. In 2024, this was 30 January 2024. Also, we follow a pay-in-arrears system for payroll. This means that the fortnightly salary you receive on a Wednesday is for the work performed during the two-week period that concluded on the preceding Friday.
Casual pay
Schools use the MyProfile platform to generate a timesheet for your confirmation. Once confirmed, the school then submits this timesheet to Payroll.
Payroll has a timeframe for submitting casual time sheets to allow for timely processing and payment. Please see the fortnightly schedule on the Intranet (Pay cycle schedule). Unfortunately, if your school does not approve your timesheet by the deadline or we do not have a completed contract in our records, you cannot be paid until the following pay cycle.
Questions and enquiries
If you have a pay enquiry, we ask you to lodge a helpdesk ticket. Please use the Request Type: 'Payroll;' these tickets will be reviewed and assigned by the Payroll team, and urgent tickets will be given priority.
Your schools can utilise the virtual classroom sessions facilitated by a qualified counsellor through our Kids Helpline @ School program. The lessons aim to promote social and emotional learning for students with virtual classroom sessions involving games, activities and fun! Sessions are free, and there is no limit on how many sessions schools can book. To explore the topics and book a session, click here.
Developed by Queensland Children’s Hospital School, this four-part series explores strategies to support students with complex mental health and chronic physical health conditions in classrooms.
Sessions are as follows:
- Series 1: Term 1: 27 & 29 February at 3.15 pm - 4.15 pm
- Series 2: Terms 2: 21 & 23 May at 3.15 pm - 4.15 pm
- Series 3: Term 3: 6 & 8 August at 3.15 pm - 4.15 pm
- Series 4: Term 4: 5 & 7 November at 3.15 pm - 4.15 pm.
Student Wellbeing Hub is inviting you to join Dr Amy Berry as she shares highlights from her book 'Reimagining Student Engagement: From Disrupting to Driving.'
This webinar will focus on two fundamental building blocks for transforming our approach to engagement in learning. We will look at the importance of building a better language for engagement, one that can be used by teachers and students in the real world of the classroom.
We will also look at the idea of developing an engagement partnership that positions students as active collaborators in the learning process – instead of battling over compliance – and hear from the students themselves as they share their ‘Top tips for teachers.'
Audience - The webinar is suitable for educators of all levels who are interested in cultivating a culture of high engagement in learning and empowering their students to become skilled and successful learners.
Details - Thursday, 22 February at 4:00 pm-5:00 pm AEDT

Hosted by the DSQ Education Team, this workshop is designed for educators who are teaching or supporting learners with Down Syndrome and/or another intellectual disability. Participants in this practical workshop will work through a step-by-step process of writing an inclusive unit. The workshop will focus on Quality Differentiated Teaching Practice for all learners (drawing on Universal Design for Learning and Differentiation) and plan individual adjustments for learners with Down Syndrome and/or another intellectual disability. The aim is to increase participation and learning and decrease teacher workload by creating one unit for the whole class rather than writing separate units/lessons for learners with disability.
When: 8 am - 4 pm, 1 March 2024
Please follow this link to register.

Statement: This Pool Table showcases craftsmanship and precision. The selection of Spotted Gum timber finished in a polyurethane lacquer compliments the blue colour of the felt covering the playing area.
