St Finbarr’s Primary School, Byron Bay, Stage 3 students have showcased their creativity and passion for learning through Podcasting. (Term 3 2023)
St Finbarr’s Primary School, Byron Bay, Stage 3 students have showcased their passion for learning with their own podcasts.
This unique project aimed to give students a broader audience to motivate their writing, creating questions and generating discussion points on areas of interest in their podcasts.
Topics included the success of Matilda's football campaign, fishing, unsolved mysteries, famous Australians and more. Students learned specific podcasting skills through class lessons and listening to various productions for ideas on making their podcasts entertaining, informative and engaging.
Students were enthusiastic about writing with more expression, letting their voices be heard and developing skills in interviewing techniques.
‘I've become a more confident speaker, and I find I don't need a script as much,’ said Year 5 student Iggy.
Students use Garageband to record the podcasts and then Movie Maker to edit their productions before uploading them to the school website. They also created digital posters to add to their final product. Families could then listen to the podcasts and share the learning. The podcasting equipment, which the Catholic Schools Office provided, allowed for professional recordings with sound effects, adding another layer of sophistication.
‘We get to manage the high-quality equipment and can share our work with our families at home and overseas,’ said Year 6 student Aleah.
Well done to the students and staff of St Finbarr’s on this exciting production. Follow the link here to hear these amazing podcasts.
