St Joseph’s Primary School, Woodburn, celebrated an uplifting Catholic Schools Week with multiple events over the school week. (1 June 2023)
It was an extremely successful Catholic Schools Week for St Joseph’s Primary School, Woodburn, with each Stage playing an integral role in the week-long celebration of this year’s theme, ‘Living our Mission.’
The week began with a beautiful Liturgy led by Stage 1, introducing Catholic Schools Week with the theme of letting your light shine every day. Tuesday was filled with fun obstacles and exciting activities as they competed in a thrilling Amazing Race game organised by the Student Representative Council.
On Thursday, Year 6 students focused on providing generous acts of service for their community.
The excursion began with a visit to the local Woodburn Preschool, giggling and chatting with the preschoolers as they presented each preschooler with a colourful handmade origami fish kite. The preschooler's amusement could be felt as they ran around the playground with these beautiful gifts.
Under the shade of palm trees, these fantastic Year 6 students displayed service at Riverside Park, nestled on the bank of the Richmond River, picking up rubbish and keeping their environment clean. They finished their day with a walk along Woodburn’s River Street, greeting each shop and handing out succulents to remind them that they were still in their prayers.
‘It felt really good; it felt like we were helping others and giving others strength,’ said Year 6 student Leila.
The week concluded with a beautiful Catholic Schools Week Mass attended by many parents with open classrooms and finishing with a lovely shared picnic lunch together.

Regional Mentor Coordinators are employed to support the School Mentor (Accreditation Supervisor) to give explicit feedback about practice against the Australian Professional Teacher Standards at Proficient to a beginning teacher. Beth McMillan, Regional Mentor for Hastings and Richmond, should be able to complete any existing requests for feedback before she finishes the role at the end of this term. Any new requests for feedback on the evidence sets or to provide a final assessment of an accreditation submission are to be made by the School Mentor to Leisa Fisher. Until further advised, feedback to School Mentors will occur via email, shared documents and Zoom meetings. Travel to schools (in all regions) will only occur in extenuating circumstances.
Priority will be given to Early Career teachers who:

Title: Liam Cia Tuanbia (Faded Memories)
Statement: My Body of Work, Liam Cia Tuanbia (Faded Memories), conveys recollections of my family's journey as refugees through the savage jungle to reach my father and safety. My ceramic forms are physical representations of the memories conveyed to me by my mother and my own memories as a young child of the wild, inhospitable jungle we hid in as a young family to escape my war-ravaged home. The bleached and fading white ceramics are inspired by my artist of influence, ceramicist Cristina Tofino, and the stylised organic forms are reminiscent of the naïve foliage as influenced by my second artist of influence, Henri Rousseau, in The Dream, 1910. I have used clay, modelling clay, acrylic paint, wire and wood in my Major Work.
The delay in the release of a range of syllabuses, including 7 to 10 Science, means we will not have the new syllabus available for our Science Network meeting scheduled for August 1 and 2. A draft syllabus will be released in Term 3 for a 'Have Your Say' consultation. Consequently, the Science Network meeting will be postponed, probably until Term 4. The timing will be dependent on NESA releasing syllabuses.
