St Paul’s College, Kempsey, Aboriginal Education Worker Sharon Kelly has been selected as a Panadol Care Package Community Member Award finalist. (2 September 2022)
Congratulations to St Paul’s College, Kempsey, Aboriginal Education Worker Sharon Kelly, affectionately known as Aunty Sharon, for her nomination as one of the finalists for the Panadol Care Package Community Member Award.
The Panadol Care Collective is an initiative created by Pandol to recognise exceptional Australians who have made a positive difference in their communities. The Panadol team found Aunty Sharon to be a truly influential Australian who has gone above and beyond to care for others.
‘I saw a Panadol Care commercial during the holidays, and I started thinking about the people in our community who I could nominate for their commitment and passion for making a difference through equal opportunity,’ said teacher Jessy Haaring.
Aunty Sharon is an Elder of the Dunghutti Nation who is adored by her community. She is known for her passion and for encouraging the best out of every person she encounters. Since 2005, Aunty Sharon has been an active role model for young people within St Paul’s College and other schools in the Kempsey area to support students to flourish through various programs that promote positive community engagement.
Currently, Aunty Sharon is involved in multiple community projects such as the learning of language, Sorry Day activities, Retreat Careers and Wellbeing Expo for Indigenous students. She has been involved in the Year 12 Graduation process and has worked as a Teacher’s Assistant to provide classroom support for teachers and students.
In recognition of her contribution to the Kempsey Community, Aunty Sharon was awarded a $1000 gift voucher in appreciation of being the true embodiment of the Panadol Care Collective community.
The staff and students at St Paul's had the opportunity to collaborate with television presenter and former competitive swimmer Johanna Griggs to film a commercial celebrating Aunty Sharon.
‘I found the experience of being in the ad quite fascinating. It was cool to see the director telling everyone what to do and how it was a long process just to be in the ad for a few seconds,’ said Year 7 student Levi.
‘It was a fun experience to be in the commercial and speak about Aunty Sharon,’ said Year 7 student Mason.
Congratulations to Aunty Sharon for being chosen to share her inspirational story with Australia.
Below is the Panadol ad that was aired last Sunday.

It is with great sadness and regret that Amanda Howle has come to the decision to resign from her position in the Catholic Schools Office.
Amanda began her teaching career in primary education in the Diocese as a first-year teacher in 1992. A rewarding teaching career throughout St Agnes’ Parish, Port Macquarie, enabled Amanda to share her love of the Arts and Well Being with students and families and develop numerous skills in School Leadership roles. In 2015 Amanda's career continued to evolve with the Catholic Schools Office in SEACS (Mission) and Learning Services. Amanda held several roles in Student Discipleship, Evangelisation, Seasons for Growth, Aboriginal Education and Spirituality and was Assistant Principal at St Mary's Primary School, Bowraville.
We wish Amanda well for her future, both personally and professionally.
The Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Limited is committed to the professional and spiritual formation of teachers of Religious Education and leaders in our schools. Study scholarships are one way of supporting and forming staff in these areas. In a combined decision by the Board, the Leadership Team and Bishop, 2023 will be the last year of study scholarships with BBI-TAITE. From 2024, new study pathways through ACU will be the supported avenue for postgraduate study for teachers and leaders in the diocese.
More detailed and individual communication will be sent to current scholarship recipients studying with BBI-TAITE to allow for a smooth transition and ensure that students can complete their studies in the most efficient and effective manner. At the same time, this change of provider takes place. Every effort will be made to ensure a smooth transition that does not disadvantage current students.
Those who begin BBI-TAITE postgraduate certificates in 2023 will be supported until the end of 2024.
Applications for new postgraduate studies in 2024 with ACU will be advertised in mid-2023 for the commencement of study in 2024.

The Library Intranet site is now active after several months of collaborative planning by the Library Network Committee and redevelopment by committee members Rosalind Kingsford (St Joseph's Primary School, Alstonville) and Catherine Graham-Smith (St John's College, Woodlawn). It emphasises the importance and relevance of school libraries at this time and the value placed on libraries being an integral part of the school's context. It is intended that this site will provide support for all staff in our schools, especially those working in school libraries. The Library Network provides a collaborative learning environment nurturing fledgling library staff and supporting the ongoing professional learning of experienced staff. Schools are encouraged to take time to navigate the content of the site and make use of the myriad of resources available.
The following CSO Procedures and Guidelines have been revised to reflect the NESA Teacher Reform changes coming into effect from November 29 2022. Please note that the CSO adheres to NESA Policy and there are NO changes to the requirements for Mandatory Accreditation at Proficient or Maintenance of Accreditation. The documents describe the procedures to support teacher accreditation in the Diocese of Lismore at each stage of career and are available on the intranet (Professional Practice):

Some staff who have moved to work in Lismore Diocese from other dioceses have noticed that their long service leave balances have not been displayed in Empower.
Our system is set up to display long service leave balances for staff employed for more than five years. If you have ported leave from other Catholic organisations but have worked for the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools for less than five years, your balance will not currently show.
Note the actual balance is not lost or affected in any way. Payroll is looking at options so staff in this position can see their balances.
Information on employment opportunities within the Diocese of Lismore is available via Positions Vacant.
Existing staff should apply through the Internal Positions Vacant page on the intranet; select People & Safety > Recruitment > Positions vacant – internal site.
