Governor-General, His Excellency, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and his wife, Her Excellency Mrs Hurley, returned to Lismore with Mayor Steve Krieg for a lovely day of learning with the students of Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School, South Lismore. (26 October 2022)
The Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and his wife, Mrs Hurley, returned to Lismore last Wednesday to spend time with the community as it rebuilds and recovers from the devastating February flood. This is Their Excellencies fourth visit to the region this year and their third visit to our Catholic school communities.
Their Excellencies and Lismore Mayor Steve Krieg visited the students at Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School, South Lismore, exploring the Our Lady of Lourdes Infant School campus. Their Excellencies sat down with a group of students impacted by the flood sharing their experiences eight months after the flood. They were moved by the resilience the students displayed in enduring their recent hardships.
Their Excellences were eager to participate in classroom activities, working vigorously in the Kindergarten mathematics assessment. We are pleased to report that Their Excellencies passed with flying colours and then practised their comprehension skills with Year 6.
To match the beautiful weather, the students sang ‘You are My Sunshine’ after Her Excellency reminded the students of the importance of looking after each other and sharing our sunshine with others.
Using Google images, Their Excellencies gave students a wonderful tour of the Governor-General’s official residence, Government House, in Canberra. Showing them the room late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, stayed in during their last visit to Australia in 2011. He used this opportunity to explain in a fun and interesting way that the Queen appointed him as His Majesty's representative in Australia.
The visit concluded with Her Excellency presenting the school with a Christmas ornament to place on the school's Christmas tree.
The school community genuinely appreciated how the Their Excellencies listened to and interacted with the students and how they acknowledged the resilience and hope displayed by the students, staff and families.

Early Career Teachers are advised that the window for submissions to be processed by the Catholic Schools Office this year is now closed (as of 4 November). Teachers who are not ready to submit now, but will be finalised by the end of the year, may submit after 30 November 2022. As previously communicated, we are moving to Managed Apple IDs.
Managed Apple IDs are accounts designed specifically for schools that enable students and staff to personalise their devices and access key services from Apple. We have been working to enable federated authentication with Google Workspace and our central Apple School Manager instance to provide a Managed Apple ID for all students and staff. This will happen in Term 4.
This will provide the following benefits for school-owned 1:1 Apple devices:
- Automated provisioning of Managed Apple IDs for students and staff
- Streamlined authentication for Managed Apple IDs using Google Workspace
To help with this transition, a FAQ document has been created here.
NESA invites teachers interested in Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) Accreditation to engage in a short PD to develop an understanding of HALT Accreditation.
Wednesday, 2 November 2022, at 4:00 PM AEDT (online).
The Lismore Diocese HSC Showcase celebrates and captures the talents of our students, reflecting their creativity, innovation, technical skills and conceptual development. These projects represent the culmination of months of diligence and commitment by students, planning and designing, developing their skills and applying them to the task of creating inspirational and engaging works.

Title: Only the Dead Have Seen the End of War
Each Cornell-inspired shadow box explores the cyclical nature of war. The drawings reference historical photographs of war and hint at documentation. The irony is in the fact that even though we have our own historical evidence about the destruction and horror of war, human nature means that we are perpetually repeating the mistakes of the past.
Staff are requested to evaluate Catholic Schools Office-delivered courses in MyLearning within five days of completing the course. This feedback assists future planning. To evaluate courses in MyLearning, select the bell icon in the top black menu bar. From here, all available evaluations will be displayed. If the bell icon does not appear, you have no current evaluations to complete.
School Leaders who are scheduling NESA Accredited courses may choose to offer an evaluation through MyLearning or they may choose a different evaluation method at the conclusion of the course at school. Teachers are reminded that all NESA Accredited courses will appear as a task to be evaluated in your eTAMS account within 30 days of completing the course. When the evaluation is completed, the PD hours will transfer to your total hours. NESA is monitoring course evaluations as part of its quality assurance processes.

An expert panel with representatives from the NSW Department of Education, Association of Independent Schools, Catholic Schools, and the Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People will consider the applications.
