This week we wrap up the exploration of the ‘ecclesial’ nature of Catholic schools.
The documents state, ‘Catholic schools are at once places of Evangelisation, of complete formation, of inculturation of apprenticeship in a lively dialogue between young people of different religions and social backgrounds. The ecclesial nature of the catholic school, therefore is written in the very heart of its identity as a teaching institution.
It is a true and proper ecclesial entity by reason of its educational activity in which faith, culture and life are brought into harmony…thus it must be strongly emphasised that this ecclesial dimension is not a mere adjunct, but is a proper and specific attribute, a distinctive character which penetrates and informs every moment of its educational activity, a fundamental part of its very identity and the focus of its mission. The fostering of this dimension should be the aim of all those who make up the educating community’. (The Catholic School on the threshold of the Third Millennium, 12)

NSW Curriculum Review Interim Report: Have your say
Geoff Masters, Chief Executive of the Australian Council for Educational Research, has released an interim report on his review of the NSW Curriculum. The report examines three broad themes in the curriculum and proposes directions for future reform.
The Review is a once in a generation opportunity for NSW to understand how the curriculum can be better taught, assessed and reported.
The three major reform areas are:
- Reforming the content of the curriculum
- Reforming the structure of the curriculum
- Reforming the senior school curriculum
We are a Catholic system of schools in regional NSW and it's important that our teacher's voices are heard during this significant time of reform.

According to ‘Growing Up In Australia’ (2015) up to 30% of a child’s waking time is spent in front of a screen.
Growing Up Digital Australia is a ground-breaking research project by the Gonski Institute for Education (UNSW) designed to change the status quo and understand how the widespread use of technology is impacting Australian children. Growing Up Digital Australia builds on the research methodology that has been developed by Harvard Medical School and the University of Alberta, and you can be a part of a worldwide study on one of the most important issues facing children today
In this Australian study, we will include a focus on rural and regional children, children from different socioeconomic backgrounds and Indigenous communities. We seek to answer questions around how digital technologies are being used, the benefits and distractions they pose to students and whether they are bridging the divide of equity or widening it.
This survey is open to everyone working in education, and the more varied the insights we gather, the better conclusions that can be reached, so please share the link below with your colleagues working in education.
This survey has the necessary ethical approvals, is anonymous and should take less than ten minutes of your time. As a thank you for completing the survey, you also have the chance to win a $100 gift card.
