Schools across the Diocese provide immersive experiences for students to get excited about books, reading and storytelling. (20 -26 August 2022)
Primary and Secondary schools across the Diocese had a wonderful week exploring this year’s Book Week theme of “Dreaming with eyes open…” which allows for reflection on our indigenous culture by listening to Country as the first storyteller.
Book Week is a marvellous community event that ignites the imagination and creativity of students by dressing up as a favourite book character and sharing treasured stories. Laughter and joy spread across school playgrounds as families came together to enjoy colourful parades of incredible and wonderous characters from an extensive range of stories.
This week-long event celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators reminds children, young people and adults alike of the positive and influential impact that books and stories have in our lives.
Over the last several months, the CSO has been managing a change from CONNX and other existing payroll systems to a new payroll system - Empower HR.
To facilitate this change, Payroll will need to pause making adjustments to its payroll staff database.
What does it mean for me?
From September 23 to October 8, you will not be able to request changes in Connx or directly with Payroll, including for:
- Personal details, including address and phone numbers
- Bank account details
- Request or approve leave in Connx.
If you have current or unreported leave requests, you must finalise these requests in Connx before Friday, September 23, 2022.
What if I want to request leave?
Currently, you can not lodge leave applications for 2023 with Payroll. Please communicate with your manager if you would like to reserve leave for next year and lodge them when Empower HR opens for new applications and approvals from October 8, 2022.
Where possible, making other leave requests for periods after October 8 should be delayed until the new system comes into service.
We also advise that you note any applications and approval you have made for leave after October 8 and check them against your balances in Empower.
If you have any questions about this payroll freeze, please email Payroll.

in Catholic education.
Congratulations to St Joseph's Primary School, Coraki, for being awarded first place, and St Mary's Primary School, Grafton, as the second place winner of the Roger O'Sullivan Award. The Council of Catholic School Parents Roger O'Sullivan Memorial Award recognises and celebrates school communities that can demonstrate exemplary practice in family-school partnerships that has led to enhanced student outcomes. It is a great achievement to have two more of our Lismore Catholic Schools recognised for their commitment to developing strong connections with families.
We look forward to showcasing these initiatives.
The Shared Future Program is out with its most recent update. You can find what's been happening this term in the attachment below.
See the Integrated Plan on our intranet page for a quick summary of the Shared Future Program roadmap.
Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has advised that no national 2022 NAPLAN preliminary results will be released this year. This is due, in part, to the effect of lower-than-expected participation rates due to the pandemic and other events such as floods.
Please note that the national preliminary report does not contain long-term and jurisdictional trends in any case. This data will be available as usual in the final report released at the end of the year.
Please refer to the relevant media release for further details.
The CSO HALT Accreditation Policy and Procedures describe the implementation of the recently released NESA HALT Policy and are now available on the CSO Intranet. This document supersedes previous CSO Policy and Procedures regarding HALT Accreditation.
The current MyLearning platform will shut down at the end of Term 3 as we transition to a new platform that will go live from Term 4, 2022. The Principal, AP Learning and Teaching and Leader of Pedagogy can propose a course to be NESA Accredited and may invite colleagues to collaborate in the development of a course. If you have any courses still in 'draft,' please ensure they are finalised and approved by the end of Week 9 so they transfer to the new platform. MyLearning will not be accessible in the next school holiday period.
There are a number of upcoming professional learning opportunities available through Catholic Schools NSW, including the CSNSW Education Law Symposium, CSNSW Virtual Symposium – supporting learning K-12, CSNSW Mental Health Symposium (limited places), CSNSW Catholic Secondary Schools Forum: On the Horizon.
Please find the event and registration details here.
Registration places are limited, so register now to avoid missing out on any of these professional learning opportunities.
Staff are reminded that just as you are required to report physical hazards in the workplace, Psychological Hazards must also be reported (before they become an injury). This can be done via your Principal, MySafety or directly to the WHS Team.
Staff in our schools and the CSO must be committed to providing a safe workplace and encouraging strong positive work culture.
Information on employment opportunities within the Diocese of Lismore is available via Positions Vacant.
Existing staff should apply through the Internal Positions Vacant page on the intranet; select People & Safety > Recruitment > Positions vacant – internal site.
