Two teachers from our Catholic schools have received the Lead Teacher accreditation medal at the annual Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) Recognition Ceremony. (28 June 2022)
Congratulations to Chelsea Carter from St Ambrose Catholic Primary School, Pottsville, and Emma McFadden from Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Skennars Head, for being awarded the Lead Teacher accreditation medal by NSW Educational Minister Sarah Mitchell at the Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) Recognition Ceremony.
HALT accreditation is a voluntary national award recognising highly effective, innovative and exemplary teaching practice.
To achieve Lead Teacher accreditation, teachers must demonstrate that they impact the broader school community, leading teaching projects and practices that impact whole school change, student achievement and their colleagues.
‘The HALT certification process challenged me to reflect critically on my teaching practice and the impact I have on students, colleagues and the whole school community. Achieving Lead Teacher Certification allowed me to demonstrate leadership and commitment to excellence in teaching,’ said Emma McFadden, Assistant Principal of Learning and Teaching.
‘The HALT accreditation process was a valuable professional learning opportunity focused on excellence in teaching. I was required to reflect on my own practice and the impact I have on students, colleagues and the community. Attaining National Lead Certification has opened up career opportunities, including attending annual HALT Summits with certified teachers from across Australia and training to become a HALT Assessor. I endeavour to support colleagues through the accreditation process, to advocate for quality teaching and recognition of teacher achievements,’ said Chelsea, Assistant Principal - Learning and Teaching.
Attaining National Lead Certification will open up career opportunities for Emma and Chelsea, including attending annual HALT Summits with certified teachers from across Australia and the possibility of becoming HALT Assessors in the future.
We congratulate Emma and Chelsea as they are recognised nationally as Lead Teachers and thank them for their contribution to their schools, our system, vocation and our broader community.

NESA launched the Stay Healthy HSC campaign on 28 July. Stay Healthy HSC is a cross-sector campaign now running for its third year. It plays an important role in providing HSC students and their families access to essential health and wellbeing services and information. This year’s campaign, with support from ReachOut, will roll out in three phases to encourage students to put their health and wellbeing first, connect with one another and reach out to support services if needed.
The three phrases include:
- Phase 1 – Be kind to your mind (from 28 July)
- Phase 2 – Check-in Week in collaboration with ReachOut Australia (September)
- Phase 3 – The last lap (October).
