Mount St Patrick College, Murwillumbah, showcased the wonderful talents of an incredible group of students involved in the Kaleidoscope Project. (26 May 2022)
The school community of Mount St Patrick College, Murwillumbah, come together to celebrate the magnificent talents of a gifted group of students who eagerly participated in the Kaleidoscope Project.
In 2021, a group of students were offered a fantastic opportunity to expand their talents in the art of storytelling in a Catholic Schools Office-funded art project entitled, ‘Kaleidoscope’. The project involved students drawing inspiration from narrative, instrumental and creative arts worlds to develop multimodal presentations.
Students journey through an engaging series of workshops. Working closely with picture book author Zanni Louise and artist Celia Pennay the students crafted a narrative picture book centred on the natural elements of fire, water, air and earth. Then, under the mentorship of acclaimed author, artist and musician Matt Ottley, students transformed their creative concept by composing an original musical score.
The Kaleidoscope Project also extended to the creative world of dance. Ex-student and YMO Georgia Baker worked with students to construct a powerful 10-minute performance, incorporating beautiful choreography sets with the four elements.
The Showcase this year was a culmination of their journey, with students presenting both aspects of their projects to the Mount St Patrick College community. The audience was enthralled by the unique fusion of storytelling, artwork, music, multimedia and dance.
‘With the opportunity to explore individual creativity through the formation of a multi-modal story, via collaboration with great minds, the Kaleidoscope Project was truly an amazing experience,’ said Year 11 student Mahli.
‘Kaleidoscope was a wonderful experience that challenged me to produce some of my best creative work and helped me realise my potential as a writer. I also enjoyed collaborating with other participants and witnessing their own artistic talents. I will remember this project for years to come!’ said Year 10 student Maya.
‘I was not only blown away by the talents of the students but by their immense dedication,’ said teacher and project coordinator Michael Lill.
We look forward to hearing about the 2022 Mount St Patrick College Arts Partnership titled ‘Nama-Jugan.’
Ignite Conference for Staff - The annual Ignite Conference, held in Brisbane (and now Sydney), is one of Australia's most powerful Catholic Youth Conferences. Ignite Conference draws together a network of high school students, young adults, ministry leaders, families, teachers, priests and religious orders from around the country, sending them out with a renewed passion for mission and authentic faith in Jesus. It will be held from 22-25 September at St Laurence's College, South Brisbane.
A large group of secondary students from the Lismore Diocese will attend the Brisbane event. Both primary and secondary school staff have an opportunity to attend Ignite Conference as formation for the teaching of Religious Education. Secondary staff will attend as supervisors with their school group while primary staff are invited to attend as participants. The Catholic Schools Office (CSO) will cover the cost of casual relief, registration and accommodation at St Joseph's College, Nudgee, while transport is available with secondary school groups if required. CSO staff may also apply to attend.
More information about Ignite Conference can be found on the Ignite Conference website.
Primary and CSO staff can register their interest via MyLearning by 16 July. Secondary staff will have already registered with their school group but should complete the MyLearning registration as well in order to log AWTL hours.

Last week the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) reported that they are seeing an increase in email phishing scams claiming to be from the ATO. These scams tell people their '2022 tax lodgment' has been received. The email asks them to open an attachment to sign a document and complete their 'to-do list details.' Opening the attachment takes you to a fake Microsoft login page designed to steal personal login details. Entering a password could give the scammer access to their Microsoft account, allowing them to reset passwords for other accounts like banking and online shopping.
If you get an email like this, don't click on any links or open any attachments. Forward the email to ReportEmailFraud@ato.gov.au and then delete it.
The real ATO will never send you an email or SMS with a link to log in to their online services and while they may use email or SMS to ask you to contact them, they will never send an unsolicited message asking you to return personal identifying information through these channels.

Statement: My Body of Work focuses on the idea of anxiety, especially within the household (which is normally perceived as a supportive and safe space). What happens when this space is not safe and we must still present ourselves outwardly to others? The motif of the gender female stereotype and suburban house are central to the work. The recurring screaming head signifies anxiety, with falling figures representing the feelings of hopelessness when trapped, while butterflies are used to express emergence and rebirth from the toxic environment.
Early career teachers who are planning to submit their Accreditation submission this year are reminded:
- Mentors will give explicit feedback about the development and demonstration of Proficient teacher practice over time with all 37 Standard Descriptors demonstrated at the time of submission.
- Research indicates a quality induction program occurs over two years. It takes time, support and focus to develop and demonstrate Proficient Teacher practice.
- The submission to finalise accreditation will be supported by the Mentor who will assist in the selection of documentary evidence and provide feedback on each Evidence Set.
- Ask the Mentor to book time (in advance) with the Regional Mentor. The Regional Mentor will review and provide explicit feedback on Evidence Set 1, and then the whole submission. Feedback will be given to the Mentor to convey to the teacher. Regional Mentors work part-time in this role and maintain a booking sheet.
- Read and apply all feedback given by your Mentor and Regional Mentor to meet NESA requirements.
- Feedback loops may repeat a number of times until the teacher, Mentor and Regional Mentor all agree the submission meets NESA requirements. Allow time for this to occur. Do not submit prior.
Submissions must be in eTAMS and with the Principal prior to Friday, 4 November for processing this year by the TAA. This means that the submission would be finalised at least 4 weeks prior (all feedback applied, the agreement made and is with the Mentor in eTAMs).
Due to the vendor conducting maintenance on both Schoolworx, including the “read-only” versions of Schoolworx, and the Student-LPA (Student Learning Plans and Adjustments) site, it will not be available for use on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 July as the product will be offline. This will occur during the first week of the upcoming school holidays. The vendor apologises for the inconvenience.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Andrew Burgess.
