The Report of the Listening and Discernment in local churches first phase, leading up to the Assembly of Bishops in Synod in October 2023 has recently been released. The report seeks to bring together the responses of the people of the Diocese of Lismore who chose to engage with the process. The report follows the three main areas of consultation: communion, participation, and mission.
In summary, responses called for clearer, collaborative and servant leadership, inclusive of marginalised groups and people, and listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit in the sensus fidei particularly concerning the ministry of laity, the place of women, clericalism, and priestly formation.
Responses conveyed hope in the mission of the church, so that despite the significant problems and challenges that lie before us, we are God's people and will be led to a new reality.
The consultation process across the Diocese of Lismore was led by Matt Digges the Director of Mission, Sawtell Catholic Care and the full Report can be accessed here.
Following on from the Governor General's tour of the flood impacted regions in New South Wales and Queenlsland, St Joseph's Primary School, Woodburn, Principal, Jeanette Wilkins was selected to represent schools in a Zoom call with Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge.
Jeanette displayed an elegant balance between vulnerability, compassion and determination as she advocated for her students, families and staff. Watch the video to see a small part of the conversation with Prince William.
(Please understand it is a requirement that this video excerpt is for internal viewing only and is not for distribution or duplication to any persons outside Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Ltd employees.)
This two-day Contemplative Prayer Retreat is being offered in the Lismore Diocese to all staff who desire to enrich their personal prayer life using contemplative approaches to prayer. Christian Meditation was first introduced to the Lismore Diocese in 2014 and during the past 7 years, has continued to become an important daily prayer for many of our students and teachers.
In addition to meditation, other contemplative prayer forms will be experienced including Labyrinths with Anna O'Dwyer and Art Journaling with Sr Marg Bray RSM.
Matt Brown, Secondary Education Officer (Mission Services) will introduce participants to the practice of Centering Prayer. Please register via My Learning.
The retreat will be a time to experience the words of the 13th-century mystic Meister Eckhart: 'There is nothing so much like God as silence'.
Catholic Earthcare, a program of Caritas Australia, invites senior students from your school community to its 2022 Youth Summit. This one-day event will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, 31 May, 2022 and aims to engage students in discussion on environmental issues and how they can live sustainably. Caritas Australia would be most grateful if you could advertise this event within your community, particularly among staff and senior students with an interest in ecology and justice. The flyer attached contains information about the event and a link for registrations.

Otherwise, students should follow the school-based Illness/Misadventure process.
