Catholic Worldview Permeation - Walking in the shoes of others
As part of the Catholic Worldview permeation of their recent Science unit, Kindergarten at St Joseph's Primary, Port Macquarie learnt about the daily life of a lady named Sabina, who has to walk 4 miles through the bush everyday to collect water for her family.
The kindergarten class participated in the design process to design a pair of shoes for Sabina; first building empathy for others in need. Kindergarten were so engaged through the design process, that when they were told that they could take the shoes they designed home, they were upset and very concerned that their shoes were not actually going to help Sabina.
As a show of compassion, Kindergarten then raised money to buy shoes for people like Sabina by designing a sensory walk, inviting students from Kindergarten to Year 6 to take part for a small donation.
Using the funds raised, Kindergarten were able to purchase a pair of the Wear-a-Pair Shoes and make a donation to the BeCause foundation to purchase additional shoes for those in need.
Well Done Kindergarten! What an amazing example of service and compassion for those less fortunate than ourselves.
