The Catholic Schools Office has been in partnership with NORPA (Northern Rivers Performing Arts) since 2015. The partnership aims to provide our students with access to high-quality theatre experiences and drama & performance workshops to enhance the curriculum and teacher professional learning. This year NORPA is touring their new work ‘Into the Forest’ throughout the Diocese during Term 2 Weeks 9 and 10.
The multi-discipline style performance includes live sound creation, movement theatre, storytelling, poetry, a documentary retelling of true events, dialogue, true and fictional characters and events, and immersive in the round staging. The exact date for your school performance will be determined after the successful applicants have been determined.
Expressions of Interest are requested from secondary schools across the diocese to engage within the NORPA/CSO Stage 5 Project ‘Into the Forest’. Please use this link to learn more about the Project and access the Expression of Interest form. Expressions of Interest have been extended to close on Monday 8 March 2021.

The English Teachers’ Association is providing a course titled “Perspectives on writing: from theory to practice”. This is in line with the discussion initiated by NESA’s Thematic Review on Writing with a view to raising the standard of writing in schools.
You may include your completion of this online event as 9 “elective” hours towards your 100 hours of PD.
The opening panel, free of charge, offers a variety of perspectives into current teaching practice from research to classroom. The webinar will include lectures from international and national experts on how students develop their own voice and style through rhetoric and grammar.
- Professor Richard Andrews on Rhetoric and Writing
- Professor Debra Myhill on Grammar and Writing and
- Dr Lucinda McKnight on Going beyond the formula.
Each of these will be followed by a session on related classroom applications developed by Mel Dixon, Ann Small and Eva Gold.
The live sessions run on Tuesdays from 7.30–8.30pm.
Recordings can be viewed in your own time. Beginning the event a week or two into the course will not affect your finishing, as recordings will be available for a month after completion.
The full program and registration are available at https://www.englishteacher.com.au/events/event/perspectives-on-writing-from-theory-to-practice.
