This year's program will take place online from 10 to 15 May. Successful applicants will join the rest of our guest editorial team and our staff via teleconference throughout the week to plan, workshop and write articles for the Spring edition.
They’ll have the chance to learn how a magazine edition is developed, engaging in the creative thinking and planning that begins the process. We ensure they understand all the elements that bring together a publication, as well as giving them specific focus as they produce their own articles for publication. Lismore has been represented in this program in the past, and it would be wonderful to showcase our students’ talents once again.
The deadline for applications for this year's program is Monday, 15 March 2021. For more details and the application form, please see this link. Please promote this opportunity to students in your schools.
As usual, schools are asked to contribute to Caritas Australia in Lent through Project Compassion. Principals, Assistant Principal-Mission and Leaders of Catechesis/School Evangelisation may also wish for social justice groups and classes to take part in virtual immersions.
This activity is an exciting new component to Project Compassion: the chance to interact online with our program staff, partners and beneficiaries. Virtual Immersions are Caritas-hosted Q&A sessions where schools and parishes can engage directly with Caritas Australia’s program operatives in Australia and overseas. The link for registration is https://lent.caritas.org.au/virtualimmersions.
Last Wednesday, Paul Martin, CEO, NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) made an announcement that 5 hours of NESA Accredited Professional Development (PD) will be added to your PD log in your NESA online account. These hours will go towards your current PD requirements for this maintenance period and will be entered by the end of February. There is no need to evaluate these hours.
Paul said that last year it was extraordinary to witness how efficiently teachers, school support staff and principals adjusted practices to transform learning to an online environment. The additional Accredited PD hours are in recognition of the professional growth of teachers and to thank you for your ongoing commitment to the NSW teaching profession.
Chemistry will be held on Thursday, 25 March from 9.00am to 12.30pm and Physics on Friday, 26 March from 1.00pm to 3.00pm.
Schools need to register teachers at:

Service NSW and the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) are strict on the documentation you can use for identification purposes when you apply for a Working with Children Check / Renewal. This documentation must be presented at Service NSW when you pay for your renewal. Please ensure you have your paperwork in order so that it does not hold up your application. If it is not completed by the expiry date, it can affect your employment.
OCG:
Our online application and renewal process requires you to enter four identification documents. After you have lodged your application online, you need to attend a Service NSW centre with the original documents to have your identity verified and pay your fee (if applicable). Your email receipt will have more information about next steps.
Further information from the Office of the Children’s Guardian click here.
A security review of the ConnX system was undertaken last week. As part of that review access to ConnX from within the school or CSO networks will remain the same.
However, if staff try to access Connx from home they will be required to install a VPN client and information on how to do this will be advertised on the ConnX landing page. If you have any difficulty with these instructions please contact IT support on 02 6622 0422 (Option 2).
If you are on extended leave and you experience ongoing problems with remote access to ConnX, please ensure that arrangements are made with your school Principal to have any outstanding leave applications entered on your behalf.
Payroll are also available to assist staff on extended leave who can't access ConnX for leave balances or copies of payslips on cso-payroll@lism.catholic.edu.au.
