This week we move on from the ‘isms’ shaping the classroom and begin to explore how we can respond.
The documents state, “In countries of long-standing evangelization, a growing marginalization of the Christian faith as a reference point and a source of light for an effective and convincing interpretation of existence" (The Catholic School on the threshold of the Third Millennium.1)
Where once people saw their faith as “a source of light for an effective and convincing interpretation of existence”, we now see that influence often weakened, ignored or even directly attacked. For us, the answer is Catholic education. For us, that means bringing Jesus into the classroom and the staffroom. We pray that the Holy Spirit will help us all to set our eyes on not so much where faith is retreating but on where faith has yet to go.

Accendere Family Discipleship Events
Attention: Assistant Principal-Mission and Leaders of School Evangelisation
Connecting parents to their child’s faith formation and learning is a vital aspect of the evangelisation of young people. Student discipleship events like the recent Accendere Retreat for Year 4 students provide a timely opportunity to engage parents in these formative spiritual experiences. Family School Partnership Services through the agency of the Parent Assembly, can provide funding and support to two schools per cluster to host a Family Accendere Event. Assistant Principal-Mission and Leaders of School Evangelisation will work in partnership with Parent Assembly Cluster Organisers in hosting these events. For further details or to register your interest please contact Janita Thomson.
Due to a number of recent serious incidents involving the accidental ignition of “Jex” brand starting gun caps; the Catholic Schools Office suggests an immediate discontinuance of all starting gun cap products in schools.
Schools are advised to choose an alternative starting device such as:
- Electronic starting pistol or electronic beeper with flash
- Portable PA
- Flag, starting clap or whistle
- Air-driven horn (Safety instructions on the labels MUST be used in storage and use of portable air horns).
