Congratulations to St Carthages' and Trinity alumni Nathan Parker.
Nathan, whose mother Joanne works at Our Lady of Helps Christians Primary, South Lismore has been awarded NSW Young Australian of the Year 2021.
Nathan Parker was on the way to his dream job as a fighter pilot when a military bus accident left him badly injured and his left hand amputated.
Despite his injuries, Nathan returned to civilian flying in three months, resuming military and university duties within seven months. He was the first upper-limb amputee in the Australian Defence Force Academy’s history to complete his final 12 months and graduate.
After completing his degree in 2017, Nathan was medically discharged in 2019 to become a commercial pilot. He works as a senior RA-Aus flying instructor in Lismore, obtaining his commercial pilot’s licence and achieving his aerobatic endorsement.
A public speaker, mentor, flight instructor and now aspiring to provide joy flights for sick children, Nathan is also a gold-medal athlete. He represented Australia in the Invictus Games in Canada 2017 and Sydney 2018, winning nine medals including three gold in Sydney. He also brought home 17 medals from two USA Warrior Games.

Action Required
NESA has advised that accreditation requirements will return to normal in 2021. However, to assist teachers to focus on teaching and learning in 2020, NESA has determined one-off accreditation extensions are available to teachers in the following circumstances:
- Teacher’s whose accreditation was due before the end of Term 3, 2020 (25 September 2020). These teachers have an optional extension until the end of Term 1, 2021 (1 April 2021)**
- Teachers who have an upcoming due date before the end of Term 1, 2021 (1 April 2021). These teachers can extend their timeframe by 6 months by following the prompts in their NESA online account (eTAMS)
- Teacher’s with a due date beyond 1 April 2021. If more time is required, these teachers can apply for an extension using the form on the NESA website.
Teachers who are in any of these circumstances should have been notified that one-off extensions are offered due to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions.
**Please note: The actual accreditation due dates for teachers (in this situation) will not be changed in their NESA online account (eTAMS). The assurance is that NESA will not proceed with follow-up action for any ‘out of maintenance period’ until after 1 April 2021.
