World Teachers’ Day
This Friday 30 October is World Teachers’ Day; a day to celebrate teachers and the important role they play in the development of students and society. As teachers engaged in Catholic education, we have a deep commitment to the Mission entrusted to us by Jesus Christ to build stronger Catholic communities built on love. This is both a privilege and an awesome responsibility.
Pope Francis (2015) reminds us that, ‘Teaching is a beautiful job; as it allows you to see the growth day by day of people entrusted to your care. It is a little like being parents, at least spirituality. It is a great responsibility.’
To all the teachers across the Diocese, I am endlessly grateful for your commitment to educating the children and young people in our care. 2020 has been a particularly difficult year but you have ensured that quality education and opportunities have continued, where possible, as seamlessly as possible. Thank you.
A Teacher’s Prayer
Enable me to teach with Wisdom, for I help shape the mind.
Equip me to teach with Truth, for I help to shape the conscience.
Encourage me to teach with Vision, for I help to shape the future.
Empower me to teach with Love, for I help to shape the world.
Amen.
We have pleasure in announcing the following appointment to commence 27 January 2021:

Yarning Circle - St Joseph’s Regional College, Port Macquarie
During the recent school holidays, Aboriginal artist Tony Clarke built St Joseph’s Regional College their very own Yarning Circle. The spot chosen is a perfect location under established trees, providing the students with a tranquil area.
The Yarning Circle has been used by Indigenous people for centuries. This Yarning Circle is designed to provide an outdoor cultural learning space where both Indigenous and non Indigenous students are able to meet and learn as a collective group. A space for teachers and students to build respectful relationships, speak openly and learn, preserve and pass on cultural knowledge whilst connecting to country.
The Yarning Circle features laser-cut images of Totems symbolic to the local area all designed by Tony himself. These screens are accompanied by information about the images for everyone to gain further knowledge about the significance of our local Totems.
We look forward to welcoming parents and family to join us at our Yarning Circle in the near future.
This annual gathering of Youth Ministry Officers (YMOs) has been amended on the Catholic Schools Office calendar. It will now be held at Invercauld House, Goonellabah commencing 5pm on Tuesday 24 November and concluding on Thursday 26 November at 1pm. YMOs are asked to complete their registration for this event through My Learning.
The FaCE Project ensures a quality teaching of Religious Education in the years of disaffiliation of religion, predominantly stages 3 and 4. This includes enabling specialisation in RE knowledge, formation and confidence in contemporary faith issues, pedagogies and methods. Both internal and external research underlines a need for such specialisation.
Detailed information is attached regarding the FaCE Project.
The 2021 Coordinated Practice Test for NAPLAN Online has been scheduled for the 25 March 2021 and the NAPLAN Assessment week is from the 11 May to the 21 May 2021. Further details for the testing process are detailed in the attached memo which should be provided to the relevant staff and the appropriate dates added to the 2021 school calendar.
As schools are now well into their PAT assessment window, please find below links to recorded webinars that will provide further information regarding the different reports that can be accessed through your school’s ACER/PAT platform. All three webinars will outline how to use each report to inform instruction in Learning & Teaching. These reports are a valuable resource for use at Professional Learning Team meetings, as well as during whole staff, leadership or cohort discussions.
