Discerning the 'New Normal' Post COVID-19, 2020 20CSO-OTDTN
Educators from across the diocese are warmly invited to participate in a series of online TeachMeets which will provide the opportunity to share their reflections on the Voices in the Field Report. The online conversation will facilitate collaborative reflection on the feedback provided by educators about their experiences during the blended learning period. The purpose of the process is to evoke new thinking to shape learning and teaching into the future. This discernment process will be used to inform the yet to be written Recommendations section of the Voices From the Field Report.
Session times:
- Weeks 7, 8 and 9
- Each Tuesday and Thursday
- 3 x 45 minute sessions per day (8.00-8.45am, 11.00-11.45am and 3.30-4.15pm)
The resource will be introduced to primary learning leaders (LOPs, Assistant Principals) via a 45 minute Zoom on 3 September at 2.00pm.
- The commonwealth phonics assessment is a stand-alone assessment.
- The results are not mapped to the Literacy Learning progressions.
- There is no capacity for system-level view of the assessments, as there is no back-end analytics provided (like PLAN2 for the NSW assessment).
- Teachers will need to interpret and analyse implications for practice using their current pedagogical understandings; that is, there is no professional learning provided to support practice.
The media release accompanying the launch of the assessment infers that the assessment itself will help parents and teachers ensure children are developing the skills to become strong speakers, readers and writers. Like any formative assessment, the strength will be the ability of teachers to use the data to inform practice. The danger here may be that the assessment data is not well understood or interpreted and therefore, becomes a stand-alone data-collecting exercise.
Please contact Kate Salmon for any further clarification.
