THE WAY (Term 2 Week 8 - 15 June 2020)
Mick Vella has announced his retirement effective the end of the 2020 school year. Mick is currently Principal at Xavier Catholic College Ballina.
Mick has a deep commitment to Catholic education. Commencing his career in Catholic education in 1979, Mick moved to the Lismore Diocese in 1991. Mick’s school leadership roles have included Assistant Principal and Campus Principal St Joseph’s Regional High School Port Macquarie, and Principal at St Paul’s College Kempsey and Xavier Catholic College Ballina.
We are grateful for the significant contributions that Mick has made to Catholic education at the local and diocesan levels. We wish him every blessing as he prepares for his well earned retirement.
The Catholic Schools Office is fortunate to have secured Dr Edward Sri to present four virtual Scripture workshops via Zoom on 6 August, 2020.
Dr Sri is an internationally renowned theologian, biblical scholar, author and Catholic speaker. Dr Sri is offering four virtual Zoom workshops throughout the day, with one workshop running in the afternoon should schools like to offer this session as a staff or RE KLA meeting. The four sessions are outlined below:
- Session 1 - Walking with Mary: A Biblical Journey from Nazareth to the Cross
- Session 2 - A Biblical Walk through the Mass: Understanding the Scripture Foundation of the Liturgy
- Session 3 - Salvation History
- Session 4 - The Bible Compass

Further to last week’s notification regarding the changes for Day 4 Graduate Formation 2020 all Mentors of graduate teachers are expected to attend with mentees. The exception will be mentors of Graduates in the second year of the program (Group B) who have obtained proficiency. Nb, if a mentor has both a second and first-year candidate in the Graduate Formation program they ONLY need to attend with the second year candidate.

EVET students have been informed by TAFE of their recommencement of face-to-face classes. All face-to-face EVET classes will return to face-to-face teaching over a four-week period from Monday 15 June 2020.
Classes will be conducted on the same days and times that were scheduled prior to the disruption.

This will be potentially useful for Principals and Assistant Principals who wish to recommend staff to register for particular courses.

Religious Education RENEW Virtual Boot Camps - Inquiry Learning Stage 3-4 (20SEACS)
This two-day Virtual Boot Camp provides RENEW pilot school participants with an introduction to Inquiry-based Learning, through a Project-based Learning framework, emphasising the three core concepts of learning: Clarity, Challenge and Culture. The Boot Camp will model Project-based Learning practices and provide an opportunity for participants to design Religious Education PBL projects for implementation in their schools in Terms 3 and 4, 2020.
