THE WAY (Term 2 Week 4 - 18 May 2020)
As we transition from blended learning back into the classroom, The Daily Soul will also transition to a weekly e-newsletter called The Soul.
Published each Wednesday, with all the usual features, The Soul will remain focused on the wellbeing and spiritual communion of our staff during the tumultuous times of COVID-19.
Schools are welcomed and encouraged to share any aspect of The Soul with students, parents and communities.
Please help us evaluate and improve this newsletter by completing the survey in the link below.
NESA has given principals and school sectors the authority to decide which syllabus outcomes and content they teach and assess for Kindergarten to Year 6 in 2020. Advice is provided for schools in the attached document, particularly for Learning & Teaching post 9 June when all students are at school undertaking full time face-to-face learning until the end of the 2020 school year.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey - the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
It is also recommended for schools to become familiar with the National Reconciliation Website Education Portal – Narragunnawali. The Narragunnawali’s online platform is free to access and provides practical ways to introduce meaningful reconciliation initiatives in the classroom, around the school and with the community. Through the Narragunnawali platform, schools and early learning services can develop a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), and teachers and educators can access professional learning and curriculum resources to support the implementation of reconciliation initiatives.
In next week’s issue of The Way a NRW Prayer resource will be available for schools.
Courses to continue in 2020 (new dates)
- EMU Early Years Specialist Teacher Course South

- EMU Middle Years Specialist Teacher Course

Due to the nature of the learning and the requirements needed to gain accreditation from Monash University, the two courses that did not commence this year will be postponed until 2021.
The EMU Early Years Specialist Teacher South Course will continue in Term 3 (dates to be announced). Venue/s will depend on the indoor group gathering and social distancing advice from the NSW Government as we move into Term 3. Catholic Sports New South Wales-Sport (CSNSW-Sport) are currently holding meetings with both State and Independent sports bodies in both primary and secondary schools to determine sport in Terms 3 and 4, 2020.
At present, athletics in both primary and secondary schools has not been cancelled in Term 3 at CCC and Polding level. At this stage, all Schools are to continue to have only school based sports activities and follow government restrictions.
Outcomes from the State and Independent sport bodies meetings will be communicated in next week’s issue of The Way.
Zoom announced last week changes to the security settings when scheduling a Zoom meeting. The only change that will affect Lismore Diocesan staff is a change to password settings.
From 30 May, passwords for meetings will be enforced. The host can manually create a password or have Zoom randomly generate a password automatically.
This change is being made to prevent unwanted participants from joining Zoom meetings.
This change will not affect participants who join by clicking the meeting link with a password embedded, or through the desktop calendar integration invitation with the meeting password embedded. Participants who join by manually entering the meeting ID will be required to enter the password to join.
For more information, please visit the Zoom Help Centre.
